for the description of the internship opportunity.
This opportunity is open to degree-seeking undergraduates, graduated undergraduates, degree-seeking master students, and graduated master students at/from OSU in biology-based disciplines.
Preference will be given to eligible students with significant laboratory (field) and/or research experience.
For additional information, interested applicants can contact former students who participated in the program (STILSA-TRONDBUSSalumni@osu.edu)
Indicate your first and last names.

I am currently a graduated undergraduate
I am currently a degree-seeking Master student
I am currenlty a graduated Master student
If selected to participate in the program, I will be
a degree-seeking undergraduate at the time of the internship
a graduated undergraduate at the time of the internship
a degree-seeking master student at the time of the internship
a graduated master student at the time of the internship
Are you a scholar affiliated with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at The Ohio State University?
Yes
No
Have you traveled abroad before and if so, how long for? Please describe briefly your experience abroad (vacation with your family, travel on your own, participation in a group-based or individual study abroad program etc.)
Indicate if you hold a valid US, EU (European Union), or EEA (European Economic Area) passport or another passport from a country for which Norway, Brazil or France has a no-visa entry policy. Indicate the expiration date on your passport. (e.g., I currently hold a valid US passport which expires on Jan 13, 2026, or I hold a valid passport from Argentina, which is currently on the visa exemption list for Norway, Brazil and France. My passport is valid until June 1, 2025). Please check that the passport you hold is a from a country which has a current visa exemption with the country you are selecting for your internship (
Norway
,
France
or
Brazil
).
If you are a degree-seeking or a graduated undergraduate, describe your major/minor/specialization, which year you are in (if applicable), your GPA and your date of graduation (if applicable) (
e.g.
, I am in my sophomore year pursuing a major in Biology, with a minor in Arabic. My current GPA is 3.8 or I am a graduated undergraduate with a major in Biomedical Engineering and a minor in Women's studies. My GPA at the time of graduation in Fall 2024 was 3.9).
If you are a degree-seeking or a graduated Master student, indicate the name of your Master program, which year you are and your GPA. (e.g., I am a Master student in Microbiology in my second year and my current GPA is 4.0 or I have graduated with a master in Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology in Spring 2024 and my GPA at the time of my graduation was 3.85).
The duration of the internship is 3 months (departure May through October 2025). 1) How flexible are you in terms of availability for the internship (for instance, are you only available during the summer months, or can you go any time?) and 2) indicate the lab you would prefer to work in and state and rank three other labs you would consider if your first choice does not work out.
Please make sure the labs you are selecting are available to host a student for the period you can travel abroad.
Elaborate on your top choice host lab and provide a brief justification for your ranking of the other 3 labs. Please refer to the
posted description
of the research in the host labs.
Describe your in-lab (or in-field) or other type of research experience (for credit, volunteering, and/or a lab component in a class) as a student. In your narrative, indicate approximately how many hours of research/lab experience you have had and detail your research experience in terms of techniques you have learned (e.g., molecular cloning, handling cell lines). Additionally, make sure to detail the broad scientific question your experimental work sought to address (e.g. My research project aimed to identify the interacting partners of the kinase BUCKEYE3, which is involved in a transduction pathway signaling the nutritional status of lung epithelial cells or my research project was to provide a mathematical model for diffusion of chemical signal through a layer of epidermal cells).
Are you currently doing research in a lab affiliated to the Center for RNA Biology at OSU?
Yes
No
Describe how this international research opportunity would be beneficial to you (in terms of professional aspiration and/or personal development)
Any additional information you would like to share with the selection committee?
Upload as one single PDF document your resume (any format but 2 pages max.) and an advising report. This is the last question of the application. By clicking on the white arrow below, your application will be submitted. Incomplete applications will NOT be reviewed. If you have submitted
only
your resume or
only
your advising report, the application will be INCOMPLETE and not considered. You need to submit
