Grievance Request Process
Per Appendix D of the Graduate School Handbook, a graduate student may submit a formal grievance to the Graduate School under one or more of the following grounds:
-
Actions concerning a master’s examination, candidacy examination, final oral examination, or professional doctoral examination that did not conform to Graduate School and/or local graduate program rules.
-
Actions concerning a graduate associate (GA) appointment that did not conform to Graduate School and/or local graduate program rules.
Complaints related to other academic matters may be submitted, but only after all reasonable efforts to resolve the problem following department and college grievance procedures have failed.
Complaints regarding harassment, bias, discrimination, scholarly (e.g., academic and/or research) misconduct, student misconduct, and human resources policy violations should be directed to appropriate university offices authorized to address them. Please see Appendix D of the Graduate School Handbook for more information.
For each ground you select, please provide an explanation that supports your grievance request, being as specific as possible. You should provide a detailed, factual, and accurate argument. You may submit a supplemental written statement if you require more space to explain your grievance request, as well as any additional documentation and/or information that you feel is relevant to the case at hand.
The Graduate School reviews all grievance requests submitted for its consideration. You will be notified by the Graduate School when your request has been received. Please familiarize yourself with the grievance review process detailed in Appendix D of the Graduate School Handbook. Please note that the review by the Graduate School does not guarantee that the request will be approved.
