Taking Math Classes at Another Institution
Transfer Credit Pre-Evaluation
Students who wish to take a math course at another institution should first check if the math course is a
direct equivalent. If the math course is not a
direct equivalent, then the Department of Mathematics can provide a PreEvaluation guarantee.
The Department of Mathematics does not evaluate the following courses:
- Courses taken abroad- students may not receive pre-evaluations for courses taken outside of the United States and Canada. Students may take courses at their own risk and then have the courses evaluated after the credit is transferred back to OSU. Review the instructions for evaluations after completing a course.
- Statistics courses- students needing evaluation for statistics courses should contact the Statistics Department.
- Math education courses- students cannot receive pre-evaluations for courses in Math for Elementary or Middle School Teachers.
Before starting this request, please read the instructions fully. Incomplete requests will not be reviewed.
Note: The Department of Mathematics will only provide pre-evaluations for courses in which students meet the prerequisites for the equivalent course at OSU.
Instructions
Students will need to provide:
- Student Advising Report
- View instructions to run an Advising Report
- Detailed course syllabus for each course
- The syllabus must include the name of the textbook, the author, a list of sections in the book covered, and a topic list breakdown. Syllabi missing any information will not be reviewed.
- Syllabi must be for the semester in which you intend to take the course, or the previous semester. For example, if you wish to take a course in Summer 2017, only a syllabus for Summer 2017 or Spring 2017 will be accepted. Requests submitted with older syllabi will not be reviewed.
Note:
Do not edit any materials (changing file names, dates in the document, etc.) before submission. Please submit materials in the original format in which you acquired them.
Any materials (syllabi, course materials, ect.) that have been edited will not be accepted for evaluation.
