Ohio State CIBER Research Grant Program

A goal of the Ohio State CIBER is to serve as a resource for the development and dissemination of knowledge needed for the United States to remain globally competitive in an increasingly dynamic world.  As such, we are excited to announce the launch of the Ohio State CIBER Research Grant Program.  The goal of this program is provide financial support (up to $5,000) for students at all levels of study to work with a faculty mentor to conduct research projects focused on issues related to international business and trade.

Scope and eligibility
Funds are available to Ohio State undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students in good academic standing from any college/department and can be utilized for a variety of research-related purposes, including, but not limited to: conference registrations, Ohio State travel policy eligible expenses, data acquisition, payments to participants for research studies, software licensing for internal Ohio State systems, copy editing, preliminary fieldwork and pilot studies. The following expenses are not eligible to be covered by this award: course buy-out for faculty time, wages for Graduate Assistants (GAs), software licensing for external systems not utilized by Ohio State, technology (laptops, tablets, phones), etc. Faculty IB research proposals will also be considered for this grant application. 

Submission instructions
Online applications will be accepted until May 9, 2025 and reviewed by a multidisciplinary faculty/CIBER staff committee. Applicants will receive brief feedback on both successful and unsuccessful applications within 45 business days after May 9, 2025.  Funds will be available for a full year from time of award with any extension to be approved on an as-needed basis.

Grant requirements
(1) Grantees should keep the Ohio State CIBER abreast of publications, presentations, or other research dissemination activities associated with the funded research.
(2) Submit a grant close-out report.
(3) Credit the Ohio State CIBER as a research funder in all publications and professional activities.

All grants are subject to the rules and regulations of The Ohio State University and US Department of Education.  Where required, students must receive IRB approval prior to disbursement of funds.

Please note that funds will be distributed pending availability of funds from the Department of Education. 
Level of Study:
Please upload a current version of your resume/CV in Word or PDF format.
Please upload a three- to five-page double spaced project proposal, according to the conventions of your discipline in Word or PDF format.  If your project requires IRB approval, please note where you are in the process. The grant proposal should introduce a relevant research question, establish the value of addressing the question for both academics and practitioners, review the relevant literature related to the question, propose a research framework and establish hypotheses to be tested.  An appropriate research methodology/approach for conducting the research should also be detailed.  Provide a budget and timeline for conducting the research.

  4. Literature review
  5. Project narrative (methods, procedures, objectives, outcomes or deliverables, evaluation, and dissemination)

Please upload a proposed detailed budget that specifies the research activities and funding requested.  Activities can include items such as clerical help. research supplies, copy editing, data acquisition, travel (specify: purpose of travel, dates of travel, destination, itemized estimates for transportation, lodging, meals, and any other expenses. Also please note any other sources of support (potential as well as committed).
